Following the recent backlash metted to the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria by one of Nigeria’s Actors, Kemi Lala Akindoju, the AGN has responded.
Kemi Lala had referred to their action of visiting a member and new Mom, Regina Daniel-Nwoko as shameful. It reads:
“This is actually shameful. In these times where the actor’s Guild should show leadership on pressing issues like navigating the industry with COVID-19, like creating structures to stop sexual harassment in the industry. This is their priority yet. Even if you visit your member must you film and post ? The videos we need to see about future and safety of practitioners. Yet, they abuse us and insist we join. Sigh!”
The AGN through her Public Relations Officer, Monalisa Chinda responded.
In her address, she revealed that although Kemi is a Nigerian Actor, she is not a member of the AGN. She went ahead to urge her to get her facts right before making comments about issues regarding the guild and her members.
She also stated that the Father of the Newborn, as well as Grandmother hold positions in the AGN.
The Father and husband of the new Mom, RT. Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko is the current Chairman, National Board of Patrons, Actors’ Guild of Nigeria. Whilst the Grandmother, Mrs Rita Daniel is the current Vice President South-South and a member of the Executives Council of the Guild.
She further stated that the courtesy visit was relevant as it is the policy of the current administration of the AGN regarding the welfare of her members.
